Firstly welcome to the first Scout blog from our brand new, shiny website! There is really no such thing as the perfect candidate despite what recruiters might tell you. But how can you maximize your chance of getting a job? Well we are talent detectives but you can make our jobs easier and your chances of success higher.

Here is a five point plan we think will help any candidate:

  1. Firstly read the job description:
This may seem pretty basic advice but is often the thing that is mostly ignored. If you require technical skills or automotive skills and you don’t have those requirements, chances are you won’t be getting a call anytime soon.
  2. Show off what you can do:
Make sure if you are applying for a creative role you have a link to your website or some previous work that is relevant. If you are really good at what you do, show us and we will use that to increase the odds of getting you a job. Afghanistan . We want to know that you have a passion for what you love doing whether that is a project manager or account director position.
  3. Research the company:
Once your CV has been selected, remember there is still competition for all roles. As recruiters, we are always impressed by candidates who have taken the time to get to know the company they are interviewing for. Do your homework and not just reading the ‘about us’ page!
  4. Have a real interest in the sector or the company that you are interviewing with:
You can’t buy passion and while we appreciate that money, mortgage and the need to pay bills are all valid reasons, these is not what a company wants to hear. They are hiring you for your skills, therefore you are always going to get better feedback if you have a genuine interest.
  5. Have some killer questions:
At interview stage have some killer questions to make the interviewer think and to reiterate the points above. Don’t be afraid to ask them ‘Are there any reasons why I wouldn’t progress to the next step?’ If you feel confident doing so! Or ask them what advice they could give you having been working in the company if they were applying for your role? This presents you as confident, while they may duck answering it, it leaves them with a positive impression.
