At Scout, we are exposed to a great many different Agencies and Marketing companies all with different personalities, environments and attitudes. But it is often quite difficult as a Candidate to know which is going to work for you. Please find below Scout’s guiding principles when thinking about what would be the best option for your next place of work:
From research, there seems to be three main factors which constitutes a great place to work:
Firstly TRUST – in the management team and in your colleagues. Your management team should clearly communicate current and future plans to ensure staff members feel informed, safe and nurtured. Management should work hard to build credibility and respect – mainly through their positive actions.
From management’s perspective, trust of their employees is built through demonstrating they are giving their personal best and working hard for the greater good of the company, not just their personal achievement.
Secondly having PRIDE in what you as an individual are achieving and in the company in general. This can be with the quality of the work you are outputting, the look and feel of the brand you work for and in your colleagues. As management, it is pride in the company you work so hard to build, and be pleased to say at the end of the day ‘that’s my company!’
Thirdly ENJOY the people you work with. Lets face it, most of us are with our work colleagues more than our family members, so if you don’t enjoy interacting and spending time with the people sat around you, this will make for a fairly miserable week. The best environments will encourage a work hard, play hard attitude – when the work needs doing just crack on, but don’t forget to look up from your computer and smile at your colleague next to you and offer them a cup of tea!
A little bit like a personal relationship – without trust, enjoyment and being proud of them, then it will breakdown fairly quickly over time. When you are looking for your next place of work, does it fulfill the above criteria and do you know enough about the company and the management to answer the above?
Right, well I know what I will be checking with my team in the morning then…
