Whether your workplace is a small office room or a large factory, it needs to be a space where staff feel empowered. The atmosphere generated from the working environment can boost moral and can give employees a sense of wellbeing.
Colour
I’m sure it’s a proven fact that certain colours can enhance enthusiasm and in turn encourage more effective workflow. Even just one funky coloured wall in a room will brighten it up massively. . We love green, especially lime green here at Scout! For me, it gives me a sense of get up and go… Go, Go, Go like the traffic lights…but in a more modern shade.
Visual displays
You can give people a sense of atmosphere by displaying good examples of the work produced, whether this is poster prints or products, a wall, shelf, cabinet or table of work is not only a nice way to show appreciation of the work carried out by staff, but also for visitors to see first hand what they can expect from the company. Also by re-arranging and updating these on a regular basis keeps the interest alive.
This can also be stepped up a level and alternatively you can ask the employees for their input in a make-over. Anonymous ideas in a hat or even a collaborative brainstorm to establish a joint ideation of a transformation, these can result in a workplace that the staff feel they have contributed into making it feel even more like a ‘homely and family’ environment.
Ambiance
Music is another sensory attribute that makes a space interesting, this can determine emotional feelings and therefore the type of music played can be a key part of a great office make-over. A TV with a news channel can also add a sense of world knowledge to a busy workforce who may feel they are not keeping up with worldly events, and in turn switch to a more fun music channel or film for a relaxing/fun time at lunch or after work to let the hair down.
Interaction
Something to bring the employees together socially can enhance moral, as we work with many Marketing Agencies, we see first hand the fun and games that can be had in an office environment to encourage ‘happy’ workers. Anything from a pool table a dart board or a funky bar area can lift ‘spirits’.
Food
Now we all know people are interested in food, and some inspired! Having a fruit bowl, some healthy nuts or dried fruit packets available not only encourage healthy eating, but also show that the company is showing an interest in it’s employees wellbeing. You can always add a few naughty jars of sweets in the mix for those with a more sweet tooth.
Zones
All of the above can contribute to areas of the workplace to ensure employees have places to either concentrate or relax depending on their workload or the time of day. Breakout areas are good in a workplace so staff feel they have some where to go to away from their busy desk area for timeout.
