Here at Scout, we have decided to interview some of our wonderful Clients to get to know them better as people and where their passions and motivations lie! Kerry from BWP is first up, lucky lady! Thanks so much Kerry for your excellent answers and taking the time 😉
- What motivates you to get up and go to work in the morning?
What gets me up? Usually one or both of the little people in my life.
What motivates me to go to work in the morning? An office full of smiling faces that are there to greet me, challenge me, rely on me and expect the same in return. Making an impact is my biggest driver.
- What is it about BWP that you love?
I love our independence, the entrepreneurial approach, being able to add value. I love that we are big enough to offer a truly integrated solution offering me the diversity and variety I need from a role/company, but that we are also small enough to keep up with the continuous evolution that the industry demands. I work with a group of individuals who all bring something different to the table – we respect each other and are all open to listen and learn as well as offer an opinion and challenge each other.
- If I was to ask your work colleagues to describe you in three words, what do you think they would be?
Direct, honest and passionate. And unapologetically Saffa.
- Outside of work, what are you passionate about?
Sport, mostly hockey and rugby, possibly skydiving after my first jump coming up later this month. And of course my beautiful family.
- If you could offer one piece of advise to new starters to the industry, what would this be?
Discover your strengths and weaknesses as quickly as possible, play to your strengths, work on your weaknesses, don’t just accept them. Keep learning, reading, watching, listening, developing and growing. Never assume someone else has it covered. Rather assume everything is your responsibility and work back from there, you’ll constantly be challenged and always be on the front foot. In short, if you want ‘one’ piece of advice, personal growth = professional development.
- What do you (generally) look for when you are interviewing for a new BWP staff member?
Cultural fit and shared values first; skills and experience second. I say this too often, but mind-set is far more important than skillset. The right attitude and attributes are invaluable to a company and the impact someone can have on an agency of our size is immense, which is a double-edged sword and makes it even more important to hire the right person.
- What is your favourite and least favourite thing?
Favourite = people who feed your soul and bring goodness into your life, whether through a brief encounter or a close relationship. (And chocolate and red wine of course!)
Least favourite = frogs (yes, the amphibians, although if this were a metaphor it would be true too.)
